– January 10, 2025 – (NOTE DATE CHANGE) Lecture by Dawn Alhert – Weft Twining with a Twist: Weft Twining Techniques Inspired by Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous peoples have long incorporated weft twining. Used in both textile and basket making, different cultures have developed their own unique patterns and approaches. Dawn’s work has been inspired by the textiles of the indigenous Chilkat of Northwestern America and Canada and the Māori people of New Zealand. (Committee formed to find new Board)
Bobbinwinders Challenge 2024-2025 – Indigenous Inspirations!
“We learn about our history and our country from our elders and our community. We learn by going to our country, by living there and being there. We learn through the Tjunkurrpa yara — the Dreaming stories. We learn through songs and dance and paintings. . .”
When Pat and Kathleen returned from their sojourn to Australia, they both thought that taking inspiration from the amazing indigenous populations of Australia would be a great challenge for Bobbinwinders members. We hope that you, too, will be in spired by the beautiful art and meaningful stories of the indigenous people of Australia. We want to get as many of you participating as last year’s challenge.
